With 40 years of experience as a researcher, consultant, teacher (Cert Ed qualified) and speaker, I am pleased to offer my services teaching courses and workshops or giving talks. Details are below. I can also offer face time tutorials if you do not live locally to me in Northamptonshire.

Katrina has 40 years experience as a family history researcher, consultant, speaker and teacher (Cert Ed qualified) 

Beginners £40 per person for the full course payable in advance 

4 Weeks, 1 x 2 Hour session per week. Max 8 people per session. Includes free light refreshments and handouts. You will need to bring your own laptop or tablet and have reasonable competence in using the Internet. All sessions incluce practical workshop time. 
 
Week 1 - Gathering information, talking to elderly relatives. The very beginning is you! A bit about personal histories. Standard formats for recording data. Tips on talking to elderly relatives. 
Week 2 - Using civil registration and census returns as a source. Primary and secondary sources. History of civil registration and census taking. Use of free websites to access civil registration indexes and census returns including the 1939 register. What indexes and certificates tell us.. 
Week 3 - Using parish registers and other records as a source. History and value of parish registers. Use of free website to access parish register databases online. Looking at other records such as probate indexes and wills, newspapers etc 
Week 4 - Data storage, how to organise your new tree and workshop. Paper or computer? Online or offline? What is a gedcom? Extended Workshop time- How are you doing? what difficulties are you having? working together to help you make progress. 

Intermediate £40 per person for the full 4 weeks, payable in advance 

4 Weeks, 1 x 2 hour session per week. Max 6 people per session. Includes free light refreshments and handouts. You will need to bring your own laptop or tablet and have reasonable competence in using the Internet. All sessions include practical workshop time. 
 
Week 1 - Armchair research – tips on using the various websites available 
Week 2 - Wills and probate indexes, non-conformism 
Week 3 - Newspapers, military records, OPCs, Parish Chest etc 
Week 4 - How to tackle the brick walls, extended workshop 

Advanced £25 per person 

Maximum 4 people per session. A two hour session where you can bring along your research for some individual guidance.
